Living Cartoons ~
the fun way to deal with serious problems.
For as long as we know, cartoons have been used to editorialize political issues and make visual the absurdities, ironies, discrepancies, and hypocrisies of any given time. They also educate and visually represetn conecpts and ideas. I am not really a cartoonist, but I can sure cut and paste and paper mache,
so I came up with the Living Cartoon!
The following are for our time, when the power of money is whittled down by the creative amassed powers of the people.
The first Living Cartoon was a vignette created for a press conference taking place at the edge of the great Sacramento River during an interview with the water protector group AquAlliance. In the background we displayed the props to conceptualize our take on the water issue.
Later, we created the video... I mean, we had the stuff!
We just needed a few Active Citizens to join us.
Not a difficult task in Chico, California.
We were on a roll by then, and next created a video from a model we displayed at the Butte County Public Library.
Enjoy the video of the display on YouTube and at AquAlliance.net and learn about an important water defender organizaton while you are there.
This display was created on big pieces of cardboard layered for firmness. It is about 2.5 feet by 5.5 feet. After much deliberation and planning, we knew what we wanted to say. It became my job to create a visual for the concepts to reach the public ~ Whittling down the words, paper mache'-ing, printing, painting, cutting and taping.
As the issues changed, the display could be updated.
